"conanair" features no cloud contract required (0 yen monthly fee) as a major advantage, but some sites have needs such as "wanting to view data on a smartphone from a remote location" or "wanting to be notified by email in case of an abnormality."

Normally, realizing these requires paid cloud systems or dedicated servers, but we introduce a case study where an advanced monitoring system was built at zero additional cost by combining "free tools" provided by Google.

Points of this Case Study

  • With an existing PC and a Google account, initial costs and running costs are both 0 yen.
  • Real-time monitoring of equipment in an overseas factory (Thailand) is possible from Japan.
  • A practical example of "DIY-DX" created with field wisdom.

This system is a practical example devised, built, and operated by the local staff of Mito Kogyo (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

Using this mechanism, data measured by conanair is automatically synchronized to the cloud (Google Drive), enabling the following "Dashboard Display" and "Alert Notification".

1. Data Visualization (Looker Studio)

You can check equipment trend management graphs anytime from a PC or smartphone browser.

2. Automatic Notification in Case of Abnormality (Gmail)

If the vibration value exceeds the set threshold, an email notification is automatically sent to the administrator.

Tools Used (All Free)

This system uses absolutely no special paid software. These are all tools that can be used for free if you have a Google account.

  • ● Google Drive: Data storage location (cloud storage)
  • ● Google Sheets: Data aggregation and organization
  • ● Google Apps Script (GAS): Automation program for data processing and email sending
  • ● Looker Studio: Data graphing and dashboard display

Overview of the Mechanism: How Does Data Flow?

The configuration is very simple. It just links the field PC with Google's cloud.

STEP 1: Measurement and Storage

Measure vibration using conanair on the field PC. Data is automatically saved as a CSV file in a folder on the PC.

STEP 2: Automatic Upload

Set the save folder on the PC to synchronize with "Google Drive (Desktop Version)". This automatically uploads the CSV file to the cloud the moment it is measured.

STEP 3: Data Formatting and Judgment (Google Apps Script)

A program (GAS) runs automatically on the cloud to perform the following processing.

  • Extract necessary data (date and time, vibration value, temperature, etc.) from huge CSV data
  • Organize into a format readable by Looker Studio
  • Judge "Is the threshold exceeded?" and send an email if it is exceeded

STEP 4: Visualization (Looker Studio)

Looker Studio reads the formatted data and displays it as a beautiful graph.

The Value of Open Data: Escaping Vendor Lock-in

What makes this custom system construction possible is conanair's open design. It outputs acquired vibration data in a highly versatile "CSV format," rather than trapping it within a proprietary cloud or dedicated software. This openness allows for flexible system integration tailored to your company's security policies and familiar IT tools (in this case, Google services).

  • No expensive dedicated servers or monthly cloud contracts are required, making self-managed (on-premises-style) construction easy.
  • Accumulate raw data as a corporate asset, enabling future AI analysis and integration into other production management systems.
  • Since you are not tied to a specific vendor (manufacturer), expanding the system or switching tools remains smooth and hassle-free.

"Possibility of conanair" Shown by This Case Study

conanair is a simple measuring instrument, but because the data is in open CSV format, such expansion is freely possible.
It can be said to be a good example of field-led DX (Digital Transformation), showing that "even without buying expensive systems, you can do this much with ingenuity."

Low-Cost IoT Implementation for Equipment Maintenance and Remote Monitoring

As demonstrated by the Mito Kogyo (Thailand) case study, conanair's open data format provides the flexibility to build a custom predictive maintenance system without relying on expensive, proprietary cloud services. By integrating with free tools, even sites with limited budgets and IT personnel can smoothly initiate equipment IoT and remote monitoring.

  • Dramatically reduce the burden on maintenance staff and solve labor shortages by automating patrol inspections through remote monitoring.
  • Prevent sudden equipment failures by receiving immediate email notifications via the cloud when abnormal vibrations occur.
  • Start small with zero initial software costs and flexibly scale the monitoring system according to your site's specific needs.
